Thousands of people marched in the streets of Budapest yesterday despite the freezing cold: peacefully, but firmly. There were more banners, but just one camp. As Bertalan Tóth, MSZP's party chairman said standing on stage: it was just a warm-up, we need to continue, because we started moving ahead and now there is no return.
“We have created unity in Parliament, we have created unity on the street, there is nothing left but moving ahead. Let us create unity for this year's elections, too: unity in the EP and municipal elections alike. One against one,” Firm and clear words.
MSZP and Dialogue have already established an open alliance of pro-Europe forces. We started on a path and there is no return. We shall crack the rotting, stinking, guilty Orbán-regime. In unity with those who want a change.
After the infamous 2014 speech of the Hungarian premier proclaiming the illiberal state in Tusványos, I promised that, as a European representative, I am going to warn the public about the crimes of the regime in an open letter every week. I am ringing the alarm bells for the 225th time because it still seems necessary. And because as a radical European democrat, it is my duty to do so.
